1 71 CUHK students visited China this summer for work and study under the first China Career Development Award Programme. Coordinated by the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Academic Links (China), it was the most organized and extensive career development programme for students of local tertiary institutions. Programme Content The programme consisted of two parts. The first was a four- week training course entitle d 'Knowing Contemporary China' mo d e l l e d after the t r a i n i n g programme for civil servants in Hong Kong. Academics, government officials, and other experts from mainland institutions gav e lectures to introduce China's sociopolitical and economic systems. The re we r e also visits to courthouses, factories, farms, as well as the homes of instructors to enhance the participants ' understanding of China an d its workplace culture. One hundred first-year students participated in this part of the programme.
