pursue doctoral studies at the University of Delaware, USA, and obtained his Ph.D. in 1996. He was a postdoctoral fellow at The Chinese University from April to December 1996 before being appointed to the current position. Prof. Cheng's research interests focus on applied climatology, including synoptic climatology, climate variations, and climatic classification. He has a number of publications on climatic impact assessment, human health, and air pollution. Prof. Chan Wing-yee Associate Professor , Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology Prof. Chan studied medicine at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff and spent a year working in chest medicine and geriatrics units in England before returning to Hong Kong. She then embarked on a very active medical career which included working for the Kwun Tong Community Health Project, engaging in private general practice, helping at a rehabilitation centre for soft drugs abusers, and participating regularly in the Hong Kong Medical Association's public health education programme. Concurrently she pursued part-time studies at The Chinese University leading to a diploma in occupational medicine. Prof. Chan received training in histopathology at Kwong Wah Hospital, where she developed research interests in gastric and lymphoid pathology. She became a member of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) in 1995, and a member of the International Academy of Cytology in 1996. She also underwent training in molecular biology at the New England Biolab in Massachusettes, as well as the Ludwig Cancer Research Institute in London. Prof. Chan's biographic entry was published in Who's Who in the World 1996. Her main research interests are non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and gastric cancers, especially in relation to Helicobacter pylori and the Epstein-Barr virus. Professorial Appointments Prof. Michael B.
