Sun, professor o f Biology, delivered his inaugural lecture entitled 'Biotechnology : Its Breakthrough i n 21st Century Agriculture' on 26th September 1997. What Doesn't?' in late February. • Wo r l d - r enowned nuclear physicist, Prof. Wang Ganchang, delivere d a lecture entitled 'The Prospects for Energy Resources i n the 21st Century' o n 18 t h A p r i l . The l e c t u r e wa s organized by the University under the auspices of the Ho Leung Ho Le e Foundation. • Prof. F r ank i e F.L. Leung, ad j unc t professor of law at Loyola Law School a n d l e c t u r er i n l aw at S t a n f o r d University, was invited by the School of Ac c oun t an c y to give a lecture entitled 'Is the Basic Law Good for Business?' o n 17th May. Visiting Scholars • Prof. G i l l i an B r own , Professor of English as an International Language and director of the Research Centre for En g l i s h a n d A p p l i e d L i ngu i s t i c s , University o f Cambridge, visited United College from 15th to 28th March as its Distinguished Visiting Scholar 1996-97, and delivered three public lectures : 'English as an International Language : What Does It Mean?', 'Developments in Listening Comprehension in the Last 30 Years', and ' I n t e r p r e t a t i on and Context' . • Prof. Barry E. Gushing, the David Eccles Professor of Ac c o u n t i n g f r om the University of Utah, visited the School of Accountancy from 17th February to 16th Ma r ch under the BA Faculty Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme and delivered a public lecture on 'The Development of Auditing : A H i s t o r i cal Perspective a nd Future Directions'. • Prof. Samuel Cheung Hung-nin f r om t he D e p a r t me n t o f East A s i an Language s at t he U n i v e r s i ty o f Ca l i f o r n ia at Be r ke l ey v i s i t ed the University as its first Wilson T.S. Wang V i s i t i n g P r o f e s s or i n L a n g u a ge Educa t i on and de l i v e r ed a p u b l i c lecture entitled 'Linguistic Awareness : Chinese Language Education in Hong Kong' on 14th May.
