Prof. Joseph C.K. Contributions to Mainland Medical Magazine To commemorate the reversion of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty, staf f of the Faculty of Medicine were invited by the Office of Taiwan , Hong Kong, and Macau Affairs of the Ministry of Health to make contributions to Medical and Health Developments in Hong Kong, a special supplement to Applied Medical Science of Today, a general medical magazine circulated in China. Among the 20 papers p u b l i s h ed i n t he i s sue, 18 w e r e contributions f r om staff of the faculty. The supplement was also published i n celebration of the launch of the Lifelive Express, a train running the Beijing-Hong Kong Railway to provide medical services to patients along its route. Telemedicine Cooperation with Xinjiang A f o u r - memb er de l ega t i on f r om the medical school of Shihezi University i n Xinjiang visited the Faculty of Medicine in mid-July. Headed by Prof. Wang Gui Sheng, dean of the school, the delegation visited th e Prince of Wales Ho s p i t a l , Lek Y u en He a l th Centre, th e De p a r t me n t of N u r s i n g, as w e l l as t he Department of Biochemistry. The visit was r e t u r n e d i n A u g u s t. T e l e m e d i c i ne specialists from the Faculty of Medicine led b y Prof. H j e lm visited the Faculty of Medicine of Shihezi University and its First Affiliated Hospital, and signed a collaboration agreement w i th the faculty on 1st September. Cooperation w i l l focus on telemedicine technology for d i a g n o s i s , t r a i n i n g p r o g r a mm e s, conferences, technology instruction, and information and data delivery. The introduction of telemedicine to X i n j i ang is expec t e d to facilitate the exchange o f medical information between the region and the rest of China and other parts of the world, and benefit patients in remote areas. Summer School for Mainland Pathologists Th e De p a r t me n t of An a t om i c a l a nd Cellular Pathology organized the second summer school for pathologists from the mainland f r om 24th July to 4th August. A total of 67 practising pathologists f r om med i c al schools a nd hospitals i n 33 ma i n l and cities attended the f un c t i on wh i ch offered a comprehensive didactic course in diagnostic pathology. T h e c o u r se t ea c he r s i n c l u d e d academi c s a nd specialists f r o m t he Un i ve r s i t y , the Un i v e r s i ty of B r i t i s h Columbia, Beijing Medical University, the Chinese PLA General Hospital, and West China University of Medical Sciences.
