T he results s h o w e d t h a t a ll v a r i a b l es i n v o l v i n g h a m s t r i n g s t r e n g t h w e r e s i g n i f i c a n t ly c o r r e l a t ed to t h e f u n c t i o n a l a b i l i ty score, whereas n o n e of th e variables i n v o l v i n g q u a d r i c e p s t r e n g t h s h o w e d s i g n i f i c a nt c o r r e l a t i o n w i t h the f u n c t i o n a l ability of the i n j u r ed knee. T h e conclusion is that H : Q rati o can be u s ed as a n a d d i t i o n a l m e a s u r e i n t h e d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g process w h e n m a n a g i ng anterior-cruciate l i g ame nt d e f i c i e n t k n e es i n C h i n e s e r e c r e a t i o n al athletes. Since i n mo s t people, one s h o u l d e r is u s e d m o r e o f t en t h a n the other, e.g., left for left-handers a n d so on, the d o m i n a n t s h o u l d e r s h o u ld h a ve better muscle p e r f o r ma n c e t h a n the non-dominant one. T h e s t u d y b e g a n b y d e l i n e a t i ng t h e differences i n muscl e p e r f o r ma n ce b e t w e e n the t w o shoulders o f 30 male subjects d u r i ng s h o u l d e r extension a n d f l e x i o n mo v eme n t s , a n d s u b s e q u e n t ly d e v e l o p ed a m e t h o d to d e t e r m i n e t h e m u s c l e p e r f o r m a n c e o f t h e d o m i n a n t s h o u l d e r , b a s e d u p o n t h e m e a s u r e m e n ts f r o m t h e n o n - d o m i n a n t s h o u l d e r . T h e results suggest a s i g n i f i c a n t correlation b e t w e en the d o m i n a n t a n d n o n - d om i n a n t sides, w i t h a significant difference, i.e. a c o n s t a nt d i f f e r e n c e i n m u s c le p e r f o r m a n c e b e t we en th e t w o shoulders t h o u gh i t varies w i t h the same rate of change. T he r e s u l t s of t h e s t u d y i n d i c a t e t h a t i t is i n a p p r o p r i a te to use the u n i n j u r ed s h o u l d er t o p r e d i c t the p r e - i n j u r ed s t r e n g th of th e i n j u r ed side w i t h o u t a ny adjustment .
