T h e d e p a r t m e n t w i l l c o n d u c t c o m m u n i t y d i a g n o s i s t o e v a l u a t e t h e c o mm u n i t y health care needs of the t o w n as w e l l as t h e p r o j e c t 's effectiveness. O t h e r public health research w i l l also be conducted i n c l u d i n g m o b i l i t y s u r v e y , f o c us g r o u p s study, a n d h e a l th status measurements. T h e concept of h e a l t h y cities originates f r o m the H e a l t hy Cities M o v e m e n t i n i t i a t ed b y the W o r l d H e a l th O r g a n i z a t i o n i n 1987. It has since e x p a n d e d f r om 11 cities i n Eu r o p e to o v e r a t h o u s a n d w o r l d w i d e , a n d has d r a w n p u b l ic a t t e n t i on t o the d i re n e ed to create a healthy, disease-free e n v i r o n m e n t that is conducive to the p h y s i c a l a n d me n t al we l l - b e i ng of i n d i v i d u a ls a nd c ommu n i t i e s . New Funds for Chinese Medicinal Material Research The Un i v e r s i t y 's Chinese Me d i c i n a l Ma t e r i a l Research Centre ( CMMR C ) recently received a d o n a t i o n f r o m N P H I n t e r n a t i o n a l ( Ho l d i n g s ) L t d . to establish a research f u n d t o s u p p o r t r e s e a r ch a c t i v i t i e s c u r r e n t l y c o n d u c t e d b y th e C M M R C as w e l l as those to be c a r r i e d o u t i n c o l l a b o r a t i o n w i t h the Ce n t r e f or A l t e r n a t i v e M e d i c i n e Research ( C A M R ) of H a r v a r d m e d i c a l S c h o ol a n d Beijing Me d i c al U n i v e r s i t y ( BMU ) .
