Gifts a n d Dona t i ons The University has recently receive d from local and overseas individuals and foundations the following gifts and donations in support o f its programmes and projects: (1) From M r. Lee Fei HK$10,000,000 for the development of Shaw College. (2) From Mr. Lee Woo-sing HK$ 1,000,000 fo r the development of Shaw College. (3) From The Hong Kong Cancer Fund (EORTC) HK$5,250,000 to support the Cervical Cance r Screening C l i n i c of the D e p a r t me n t of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology. (4) From Estate of L i Wai Chun HK$ 12,000,000 for establishing an e n d o wme n t f u nd i n the University. (5) From Zheng Ge Ru Foundation HK$3,000,000 as the first instalment of a donation to support the reconstituted Institute of Mathematica l Sciences from 1998-99. (6) From C U H K Electronic Engineerin g Alumni Association HK$60,900, the capital and interest f r om w h i ch w i l l be used to awa r d t w o scholarships to outstanding students of the Department o f Electronic Engineerin g from 1998-99. (7) From The Educational Publishing House, Ltd. H K $ 5 0 , 0 00 annually f o r a w a r d i n g five scholarships o f $10,000 each to four part-time undergraduate students and one postgraduate student of the Faculty of Education from 1997- 98. (8) From Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council HK$ 1,339,000 for awarding in 1997-98: a. two memorial awards totalling HK$61,000 for the acquisition of personal aids or facilities to assist meritorious disabled students in their learning; b. 18 memorial fellowships of HK$38,000 each to postgraduate research students; and c. 27 memorial scholarships of HK$22,000 each to undergraduate students. (9) From Gatorade Sports Science Institute HK$5,000 annually for two years f r om 1997-98 for granting an award to a student o f the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. (10) From the following donors HK$8,000, the capital and interest from which wil l be used to award two or more physics prizes t o outstanding students o f the Department of Physics from 1997-98: a. Mr. Hon Yiu-ming HK$ 1,000; b. Mr. Ng Yee-kong HK$5,000; and c. Mr. Sin Kwong-sang HK$2,000. (11) From The Hong Kon g Federation of Insurers Educational Trust HK$20,000 for awarding a scholarship to an outstanding final-year business administration student concentrating in either finance or marketing in 1997—98. (12) From the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management HK$6,000 annually from 1997-98 for awarding a scholarship to an outstanding student concentrating in management. (If the recipient is not a member of IHRM, the value of the award will be $3,000). (13) From the Hong Kon g Society of Accountants HK$ 10,000 annually for awarding a scholarship to a final-year student of the Faculty of Business Administration. (14) From The Incorporated Trustees of Chiap Hua Cheng's Foundation HK$ 100,000 fo r awarding 20 bursaries of $5,000 each in 1997-98. (15) From The Incorporated Trustees of Hsin Chong — K . N . Godfrey Yeh Education fund: a. HK$108,000 for awarding 18 bursaries o f $6,000 each to needy students in 1997-98; and b. HK$ 100,000 to sponsor a student campus work scheme in 1997-98. (16) From Joyce M . Kuok Foundation HK$460,000 annually from 1997-98 for awarding: a. eight scholarships of HK$23,600 each t o medical students; and b. 12 scholarships of HK$22,600 each to engineering and science students. (17) From Mrs. Leung Chui Kit-yung HK$ 100,000, the capital and interest from which will be used to award a memorial scholarship of $5,000 to an undergraduate student o f the Department of Religion from 1997-98. (18) From Machiavelli Centro di Lingua e Cultura Italiana per Stranieri ITL6,000,000 for granting a maximum of 16 awards of ITL375,000 each to students who are studying the Italian language to attend a summer course at the Machiavelli Centro in Florence, Italy, in 1998. (19) From Management for Executive Development Programme Alumni H K $ 10,000 , the interest from which will be used to award two scholarships. (20) From Merck Sharp & Dohme (Asia) Limited: a, to the Faculty of Medicine HK$65,000 annually from 1997-98 fo r awarding to students Gifts and Donations 59
