outstanding achievement in gerontology research by the Ho ng K o n g A s s o c i a t i on o f Gerontology. Moreove r Hong Kong 's first psychogeriatric u n i t was established at the Un i v e r s i ty i n 1991 ， and has since served as a model f or other units locally. 'The most i mpo r t ant t h i ng is that this research raises the awareness of the general public towards elderl y health care and social service provisions, ' emphasized Prof Woo. Comprehensive and Collaborative Study of Geriatrics As the number o f o l d peop le continues to grow throughout the 90s, the University established the Centre for Gerontology and Geriatric s in mid 1998 to coordinate interdisciplinary teaching and research between clinical and social science departments. Resources can thus be deployed more effectively and the subject of ageing and th e elderly can be covered more comprehensively and systematically. The centre's convener is Prof. Jean Woo an d its other members come from different departments in the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Social Science (see table).
