There were lectures, agency visits, and f i e l d placements, t h r o u gh w h i c h senior administrators of the China Hope Project may acquire knowledge and skills in welfare service ma n a g eme n t and the a dm i n i s t r a t i on o f charitable organizations. The China Hope Project has since 1989 b u i l t over 7,000 p r i ma ry schools o n the mainland and helped more than two million school-aged children resume their studies. First APEC Study Centre in HKSAR Set Up at CUHK The first official A P EC Study Centre of the H K S A R was established at the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies ( H K I A P S ) i n earl y No v emb e r 1999. Prof. Ye u ng Yu e - ma n , director of HK I APS, was appointed the chief coordinator of the new centre. Through the centre the University will help strengthen the international consortium of APEC study centres in the Asia-Pacific region and foster research collaboration between institutions of higher learning in Ho n g K o ng and the Asia-Pacific region. The centre w i ll also help the H K S A R government conduct studies and research on areas that may facilitate Ho ng Kong's socio- economic linkage with other APEC economies, participate i n activitie s organized b y the international APE C Study Centre consortium, initiate local research, engage in joint projects o f a sub-regional nature , and serve as an information and resource centre for scholars, policy makers, and the general public . Art Museum Exhibitions • Sparkling Splendours — The Art of Ancient Chinese Carvings on Rock Crystal and Agate (The Taoshi Zha i Collection) t o ok place at the East Wi ng Galleries of the A r t Museum from 22nd January to 26th Ma r ch 2000. Over 200 pieces o f rock crystals and agates from the Neolithic period to the M i n g dynasty, all f r o m the Taoshi Z h ai Collection, were featured in the exhibition. Shoushan stone seal carved by Zhao Zhiqian (1829-1884) Exhibits in this exhibition date from the Warring States period (475 BC—221 BC) to the Qing Dynast y (1644-1911), and include official seals, private seals, pictographic seals, and signature seals.
