Professor of Statistics Prof. Chan Ngai-hang has been appointed professor of statistics from 14th August 2000. Prof. Chan obtained his B.Sc. from The Chinese University of Ho ng Kong in 1981 a nd h i s Ph.D. f r om t he Un i v e r s i ty o f Maryland — College Pa rk i n 1985. From 1985 to 1995, h e taught mathematics at I n d i a na Un i ve r s i t y, a n d later a t Carnegie Mellon University an d the Hong Ko ng Un i v e r s i t y o f Science a nd Technology. Prior to joining The Chines e Un i ve r s i t y, h ewa s p r o f e s s or in t he Statistics Department of Carnegie Mellon University. Prof. Chan is an associate editor of Econometric Theory, Journal of Forecasting, a n d Communications in Statistics. H i s m a i n research interest is time series analysis, in particular statistical inference for spatial-temporal dependent data. Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Prof. Jack Ch e ng Chun - y i u h a s be en appointed professor of orthopaedics and traumatology from 1st October 2000. Prof. Ch e ng wa s e d u c a t ed at t he University of Hong Kong, receiving hi s MB BS i n1976. He became FRCSEd an d FRCSGlas i n 1980, a n d FRCSEd ( O r t h o p a e d i c Su r ge r y ) i n 1984. He o b t a i n ed h i s M Df r om Th e Ch i n e se University in 1999. He joined The Chinese University i n 1983 as lecturer i nthe Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, wa s promoted to senior lecturer rank in 1986, and reader in 1992. Prof. Ch e ng i s a memb er o f t he International Paediatric Or t hop a e d i c Think Tank, the International Federated Body on Scoliosis Etiology, a n d t he Chinese Society of Material Science. He also serves as an executive councillor of t he I n t e r n a t i o n a l F e d e r a t i on of t h e Paediatric Orthopaedic Societies. Hi s r e s e a r c h i n t e r e s t s i n c l u de congenital muscular torticollis, childhood i n j u r y and p r even t i on , bone mi ne r a l density in children and adolescents, and biomaterial research. Emeritus Professor of Marketing Prof. Mun Kin-chok was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor of Marketing from 1st A u g u s t 2000 i n r e c o g n i t i o n of h i s outstanding academic a c h i e v eme n t s a n d distinguished servic e to the University. Prof. Munjoined The Chinese University in 1969 as lecturer inbusiness administration, was promoted to senior lecturer in marketing in 1974, reader i n marketing in 1979, and professor o f marketing in 1982. He retired on 31st July 2000. During his 31 years with the University, Prof. Mu n h a d a s s umed i mp o r t a n t administrative posts and made remarkable contributions t othe overall development of the University. He was one of the major planners fo r the establishment of th e Faculty of Business Administratio n in 1974. He initiated the set-up o f the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business, and the introduction of th e Executive MBA P r og r amme , of which he has been director since 1992.
