NEWS IN BRIEF Council News • The Chancellor has nominated and renominated the following people as Members to the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong: • Mr. Robert N g (from 14th November 2000 to 13th November 2003) • Mr. Tai Hay-lap, Mrs . Ng Fong Siu-mei, Mei, and Mr. Anthony Francis Neoh ( f r om 27th November 2000 to 26th November 2003) • The Ho n o u r a b le Chan Kam- l am , t he Honourable Cheung Man-kwong, and the Honourable James P.C. Tien were elected by the members of the Legislative Council, from among their own number, as members of the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong for three years f r om 27th October 2000. University Members Honoured • Prof. Arthur K.C. Li, vice-chancellor of the University, was elected Honorary Fellow by the Board o f Regents o f the Ame r i c an College of Surgeons at the College's Clinical Congress held in October 2000 i n Chicago. The honour was a tribute to Prof. Li's outstanding achievements in surgery. Honorary Fellows of the college are individuals who possess an international reputation in the field of surgery or medicine, or have rendered distinguished humanitarian services, especially in the field of medical science. The number of living Honorary Fellows w i ll not exceed one hundred at any one time. • Prof. C.N. Yang, Distinguished Professor-at- Large at the University, is a co-winner of the King Faisal International Prize for Science for 2001. The announcement was made on 12th December 2000 by HR H Prince Khaled A1 Faisal, director-general o f the K i ng Faisal Foundation in Riyadh.
