Over a hundred mentors and mentees introduced themselves to one another on the occasion. The objective of the programme, like other mentor programmes in other colleges, is to broaden the horizons of students and enhance their personal growth by allowing them to learn from the experience of college alumni. Chung Chi College 50th Anniversary Activities Conferences and Lectures • Conference on 'Chinese Music Research: New Perspectives in the 21st Century', 5th to 12th January 2001, by the Department of Music, the Society of Traditional Chinese Music, and the Research Institute of Music of the China Research Academy of Arts. • Lecture Series on Chinese Civilization and World Religions, 19th February to 30th March 2001 , by the Centre for the Study of Religion and the Chinese Society at Chung Chi College. • Conference on Three Maritime Cities in As i a, 1st to 3rd Ma r c h 2001 , by the Department of Histor y and the Research Institute for the Humanities. Visiting Scholar Prof. T. Kue Young, professor and head of the Department of Community Health Services of the University of Manitoba, Canada, visited Chung Chi College as Sin Lien L i n g Wong V i s i t i n g Fellow 2 0 0 0 - 1 f r om 8th to 20th January 2001. During his visit, Prof. Young served as a panelist at the Annual Education Conference of Chung Chi College held on 13th January and spoke on the theme of 'Social Change and Health: Challenges for the 21st Century'. Mathematical Olympiad A p p r o x i ma t e l y 150 students f r om elite secondary schools i n Hong Kong, Macau, the mainland, and Russia participated in the 2001 Chinese Mathematical Olympiad held from 11th to 16th January on campus. The activity was coorganized by the Mathematics Society of China, the International Mathematical Olympiad (Hong Kong) Committee, and the Education Department of the HKSAR , and sponsored by Chung Chi College. The aim of the c omp e t i t i on is to raise interest i n mathematics among secondary school students and to pick out outstanding students for further development. Winner s of the Olympiad w i l l participate in the International Mathematics O l ymp i a d , to be h e ld i n July 200 1 i n Washington.
