Civilization of China Series. Un d er the ag r eemen t, the C H A N T Project w i l l provide the Chinese text of Pre-Han and H a n works, wh i ch w i l l be translated by prominent scholars invited for the purpose by Yale University Press. The collaboration w i l l enable ancient Ch i n e se l i t e r a r y w o r k s t o b e mo r e accessible to non-Chinese readers, and also b r i ng them closer to the Chinese original. The objective of the CHANT Project is to establish a computerized database of the entire b o dy of extant Pre-Han and Han traditional Chinese texts. Since its launch i n the late 1980s, the project has completed some 1,000 different texts w i t h a grant f r o m t he Research G r a n ts C o u n c i l. Different editions of a text are collected and modern punctuation added to them. C i t a t i o ns f o u n d i n an c i ent Ch i nese encyclopaedias and pa r a l l el passages f ound in other texts are used for collation purposes. Textual notes made by famous scholars are also included. Training Activities for Undergraduates BA Faculty Launches First Credit-bearing Study Abroad Programme The Study Abroad Programme 2001 of the Faculty of Business Adm i n i s t r a t i on was officially launched on 10th May 2001 at a press conference held at the Un i ve r s i ty Guest House. The objective of this credit- bearing programme is to enable students to acquire international experience and exposure to different cultures, and to learn f r om senior executives and academics outside Hong Kong. It is also the first and only credit-bearing undergraduate study abroad programme i n the territory. I n 2001, o v er a h u n d r e d undergraduates i n the faculty visited leading companies in Japan, Singapore, Beijing, and Shanghai under the programme, whose senior executives talked to them about their international investment strategies and management styles. The pa r t i c i pa t i ng companies include Epson, the Bank o f Japan, Mi t sub i shi Electric Corporation, Jusco Ltd., and Oriental Land Co. UC Students Train Body and Mind at Hebei Close t o 30 students of Un i t ed College went to Hebei Un i ve r s i ty on 23rd June 2001 for a 17-day intensive training camp. They were accompanied by Prof. Stephen Wong of the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. O r g a n i z ed b y Un i t ed College and sponsored by the College En d owme nt F u n d , t h e o b j e c t i ve o f t h i s n e w l y i n t r o d u c ed Summer P u t o n g h ua a nd M i l i t a r y T r a i n i ng P r o g r amme was t o provide students of the college w i t h the oppo r t un i ty to polish their pu t onghua, enhance their k n ow l e d ge o f Chinese culture and history, and strengthen their bodies through intensive physical training provided by the host institution.
