Anthropology Students Visit Guangxi Nineteen students f r om the Departmen t of An t h r o p o l o gy we n t to Gu i l i n , Longsheng, and Na n n i ng of the Guang xi Mu n i c i p a l i ty f r o m 2 7 t h M a y to 9 t h J u ne 2 0 01 t o investigate ethnic cultures a n d t o u r i sm , and to visit archaeological caves and shell- m i d d e n sites. The a n n u a l s ummer s t u dy tour was organized b y the department and partially sponsored b y N e w As ia College. Scottish Summer for B.Ed. Students N i n e Year 2 B.Ed. (Language Edu c a t i on ) students too k pa rt i n a six-week s ummer i mme r s i on p r o g r amme at the Un i v e r s i ty of Ed i n b u r g h , Scotland, i n Jun e a nd Jul y 2001, being the second overseas i mme r s i on p r o g r amme o r gan i z ed b y the Fa c u l t y of Education. Adm i n i s t e r e d b y the Institute of A p p l i e d L a n g u a g e S t u d i es of t he Un i v e r s i t y of Ed i n b u r g h , the p r o g r amme a i med at p r o v i d i n g s t u d e nt teachers of English an o p p o r t u n i t y to understand the cultures of En g l i s h - s p e a k i ng countries, e x p a n d i n g their exposure to educational practices overseas, a n d p r omo t i n g their competence i n English. The p r o g r a mme c omp r i s e d E n g l i sh language enhancement sessions, teaching me t h o d o l o g y wo r k s h o p s , presentations o n B r i t i sh culture, visits to schools, a n d other social and cultural activities. D u r i ng the six weeks , the students stayed w i t h host families i n Ed i nbu r gh. There we r e over 200 participants i n c l u d i n g guests, awardees a n d t h e ir p a r e n t s .
