Offerin g Professiona l Trainin g Programme s The Un i v e r s i t y 's School of C o n t i n u i n g Studies (SCS) a n d the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) have been offering specially-designed professional training p r o g r ammes t o different corporations o n the ma i n l a nd to t r a in managers o f different ranks . Teachers are recruited f r om H o n g Ko n g. The SCS w a s taske d w i t h o r g a n i z i ng t r a i n i n g p r o g r a mm es f or s c h o l a rs f r o m Shandong as we ll as high-ranking managers at the provincia l level. Since 1991, it has taken over the D e v e l o p m e nt Co u r se f or Senio r Ma n a g e r s of M a c h i n e ry M a n u f a c t u r i ng Industries i n China as w e l l as the Economic M a n a g e m e n t Sem i n ar f or H i g h - r a n k i ng C i v i l Servants i n China. The f o rmer aims at n u r t u r i ng experts i n i n d u s t r i al technology to s p e e d u p t h e d e v e l o p m e n t o f t he m a n u f a c t u r i n g i n d u s t r i es i n d i f f e r e nt regions. The latter a i ms at r e n e w i ng the ma n a g eme nt k n o w - h ow of ma i n l a nd c i v il servants i n order to i mp r o ve their leadership and management quality. T h e ir specialities i n c l u d ed finance, marketing, h u m a n resource m a n a g e m e n t , a n d c o r p o r a t e d e v e l o p m e n t . I n 2 0 0 1, A P I B c o n d u c t e d 19 p r o g r amme s f or 600 executives.
