Hung Hon Cheung, George M r H u n g H o n Cheung, George is the chairman of the Boar d of Trustees of Chung Chi College, The Chinese University of Ho ng Kong . Born i n the city of Guangzhou in 1934, he migrated to Ho ng Kong in 1937. Thereafter he travelled frequently between the t wo cities to avoid the atrocities of the Second Wo r ld War, pu r s u i ng his p r i ma ry education i n various local schools. A t M i d d le 2 he enrolled at Pui Ying M i d d le School i n Ho ng Kong, where he stayed until his secondary schooling was completed. Mr. H u ng was among the first batch of candidates to sit the Chinese M i d d le Schoo l Certificate Examination. He was admitted into Chung Ch i College in 1952 and graduated in 1956. D u r i n g his time at Ch u ng Chi , Mr. H u n g majored i n business adm i n i s t r a t i on and minored i n economics. Up o n graduation he joined Carrier A i r Conditionin g Company, wher e in 1970, his har d w o r k and outstanding performance earned h i m the opportunity to pursue advanced studies i n air-conditioning engineering i n the United States. He continued to scale new heights i n his career after returnin g to Ho ng Kong, both i n professional undertakings and i n business management. In 1979 he founded System Engineering Limited. His company has since g r own an d developed to become an enterprise of excellent repute, having stood the trials of recessions and crises as we ll as social unrest. Mr. H u ng is n ow a life member of the Ame r i c a n Society of Heating, Refrigeratin g and A i r - Cond i t i on i ng Engineers , and the Association o f Energy Engineers of the Un i t ed States, and also a member of the America Management Association. Mr. H u n g is a great philanthropist w i t h a genuine concern fo r the common good, and is i n particular a staunch supporter of education. He is convinced that th e education of the y o u n g and the development of y o u t h f ul talents are lifelong enterprises, and has whole- heartedly devoted all his free time to the furtherance of the cause. His support covers the f u ll range of educational organizations, from pre-school institutions to tertiary institutions. He is the manager of No r th Point Methodist Church Nursery, No r th Point Methodist Church Kindergarten, No r t h Point Methodist Primar y School Wesley College, the Methodist Lee Wai Lee College, F ui Ying College and Pui Ying Secondary School, as we l l as an honorary adviser to the Pui Ying A l umni Association Ho n g Kong. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Curriculum Development Council of the Ho ng Kong Government. This is a public office of major importance as i t is the council' s business to promot e c u r r i c u l um reform and to facilitate the transformation of H o ng Ko ng society to a knowledge-based economy.
