I n response to this t r e n d, the Fa c u l ty o f B u s i n e s s A d m i n i s t r a t i o n a n d t h e D e p a r t me n t of P s y c h o l o gy h a ve j o i n t l y e s t a b l i s h e d t he f i r s t l o c a l a c a d e m i c- research-based Assessment a nd T r a i n i ng Centre (ATC) o n th e Un i v e r s i ty campus. The centre w i l l assist o r g a n i z a t i o ns i n e n h a n c i n g e f f e c t i v e n e s s a n d g a i n i n g c o m p e t i t i v e a d v a n t a g es t h r o u g h t he de v e l opment of h u m a n resource systems, m a n a g e m e nt p r a c t i c e s, a n d emp l o y ee competencies. T he assessment t o o ls a n d t r a i n i n g m e t h o d s of A T C h a ve b e en d e v e l o p ed locally, s u p p o r t ed b y emp i r i c al evidence, a n d r e c o g n i z e d i n t e r n a t i o n a l l y. I t w i l l c ondu ct research on w o r k b e h a v i o ur a nd factors that affect jo b performance. It also designs state-of-the-art assessment a nd t e c h n i q u e s , a n d d e v e l o p s i n d i g e n o us assessment tools a nd t r a i n i ng packages c u l t u r a l l y r e l e v a n t t o H o n g K o n g , m a i n l a n d C h i n a, a n d South-east A s i a. On e such t o ol is the Chinese Personality Assessment I n v e n t o ry j o i n t ly d e v e l o p ed b y C U H K researchers a nd psychologist s f r o m the Chines e A c a d emy of Sciences. Medical News New Centres Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control The Chinese Un i v e r s i ty of H o n g K o n g Jockey C l ub Centre for Osteoporosi s Care a n d Co n t r ol was officiall y opened o n 8 th N o v e m b e r 2001. The f i r st s p e c i a l i z ed centre f o r osteoporosis car e a n d c o n t r ol i n the Asia-Pacific, the centre i s located i n the Postgraduate Education Centre of the F a c u l t y of M e d i c i n e, P r i n ce of Wa l es H o s p i t a l . I t w a s e s t a b l i s h ed w i t h a generous d o n a t i on of $4 1 m i l l i on f r om the H o n g K o n g Jockey C l ub. The ma j or p u r p o s e of the centre is to prevent osteoporosis, a silent epidemic for this m i l l e n n i um a n d one of the t op f i ve c o n d i t i o n s c a u s i n g d i s a b i l i t y a n d p r o l o n g ed ho s p i t al stay for the e l de r ly i n H o n g Ko n g. 63
