News in Brief Council News Life Member of the Council D r . Lee H o n - c h i u , c h a i r m a n o f t h e U n i v e r s i ty C o u n c i l, has been appointed a L i f e M e m b e r of the C o u n c i l f r o m 11th September 2002. Dr. Lee Hon-chiu a n d the Lee F a m i ly have been staunch supporters and generous benefactors of The Chinese Un i v e r s i ty of H o n g K o n g since its i n c e p t i o n. He was elected a Council member i n 1992 and had assumed a leadership role on several Council c omm i t t e es b e f o re b e i n g e l e c t ed v i c e- chairman of the Council. In October 1997, u p o n the retirement of Dr. the Honourable Lee Q u o - w e i , D r . Lee H o n - c h i u w a s appointed Ch a i rman of the Council by the Chancellor, w i t h the unanimous support of the Council. New Council Members • Ms. Cheng Kit-yin, Kelly has been elected by the Board of Trustees of Shaw College as a member of the Council for three years f r om 18th May 2002. • Mr. Heung Shu-fai has been elected by the Board of Trustees of N ew Asia College as a member of the Council for three years f r om 13th June 2002. • Prof. Michael S.C. Tam has been elected by the Assembly of Fellows of Shaw College as a member of the Council for three years f r om 1st Augu st 2002. • D r. Edgar Cheng has been elected as a member of the Council for three years f r om 11th September 2002. • Mr. Kwok Chi-leung, Karl has been elected by the Board of Trustees of C h u ng Chi College as a member of the Coun c il for three years f r om 18th October 2002.
