Professors of Computer Science and Engineering • Prof. Leung Kwong-sak has b e en a p p o i n t ed professor of computer science and engineering f r om 1st August 2002. P r o f . L e u n g ob- tained his B.Sc. ( Eng) and Ph.D. f r om the University of London i n 1977 and 1980 respectively. He j o i ned The Chinese U n i v e r s i ty i n 1985 as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, becoming senior lecturer in 1990 and reader in 1996. In 1999, Prof. Leung was appointed chairman of the department. Prof. Leung is a f e l l ow of the H o n g K o ng Comp u t er Society and the H o n g Kong Institution of Engineers. • Prof. Xu Lei has been appointed professor of computer science and engineering f r om 1st August 2002. Prof. X u received his bachelor degree in electrical engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology in 1981, his master a nd Ph.D. degrees in i n f o rma t i on science f r om Tsinghua University in 1984 a nd 1987 r e s pe c t i v e l y. He j o i n ed the C U HK Department of Computer Science a nd E n g i n e e r i ng as senior lecturer i n 1993 and was promoted to reader rank in 1996. Honours bestowed on Prof. X u over the years include the Chinese Na t i o n al N a t u r a l S c i e n ce A w a r d a n d t h e I n t e r n a t i o n al N e u r al N e t w o r k Society Leadership Award. He is a fellow of IEEE.
