MBA Students Produce Outstanding Business Plan F o ur C U H K M B A s t u d e n ts 一 A t l a n t us Wong, Ma r t in Yip, Chris Chau, and Ray Ko 一 w o n the Outstanding Business Plan Awa rd i n their division in the Asia Mo ot Corp 2002 N e w Venture Business Plan Comp e t i t i on organized by the University of Hawa ii f r om 14th to 16th March 2002. There were 13 teams competing for the best new venture business plan in the competition. Du r i ng the competition, b u d d i ng entrepreneurs f r om across As ia presented their plans to a panel of judges comprising venture capitalists, successful entrepreneurs, consultants, and investors from all over the US. Li M i ss Florence Lo M a n Ting , a student of Un i t ed College w h o has just completed her first-year studies at the School of Accountancy, has w o n the 2002 award of the Sanford Yung Sc ho l a rs P r o g r a mme f or Ex c e l l en ce i n Ac c o u n t i ng Studies (SYSPEAS). This is the s e c ond t i me a C U H K s t u d e nt has been awarded the scholarship since its inception last year. Established in 2001 by Mr. Sanford Yung, SYSPEAS provides one scholarship per year to be awarded through open competition to the most ou t s t and i ng first-year student in accounting in a local university. The scholarship provides a cash award of HK$200,000 to cover all expenses relating to the awa r d e e 's a c c o u n t i ng s t u d i es i n u n i v e r s i ty for the second and t h i rd years. U p o n the successful completion of his/her second-year course, the awardee shall be s p o n s o r ed f or an e i g h t - w e ek s u mm e r placement at one of the Big Four Firms in an overseas city, w i t h r e t u rn air ticket p l us HK$30,000 for personal expenses provided. Students Win Accounting Case Competition Students f r om the School of Ac c oun t an cy beat s t u d e n ts f r om three o t her l e a d i ng business schools i n Greater Ch i na i n the F o u r th D r a g on League A c c o u n t i ng Case Competition held on 17th and 18th May 2002 i n Taipei. The competition is an annual event to promote accountancy education. The Dragon League is an academic alliance f o r med by C U H K ' s School of A c c o u n t a n cy a nd the accounting departments of Fudan University, Taiwan University, and Peking University to promote accounting education and research i n mainland China, Ho ng Kong, and Taiwan. More Victories for the CU Rowing Team Rowers f r om the University outshone their counterparts f r om the Un i v e r s i ty of H o n g K o n g i n the 16th I n t e r v a r s i ty R o w i n g Championship held on 15th September 2002 on Shing M u n River. The CU team came out of the five races w i t h three gold trophies and t wo silver. In the focus event of the day — the men's coxed eight race, they beat the H K U team News in Brief 5 7
