SCS Launched Associate Degree Programmes T he U n i v e r s i t y 's S c h o ol o f C o n t i n u i n g S t u d i es (SCS) i n t r o d u c ed t w o associate degree programmes 一 the Associate of A r ts i n Business a nd the Associate of Science i n C o m p u t i ng 一 i n September 2002. The SCS also explored opportunities of j o i nt ventures w i t h l o c a l a n d o v e r s e as e d u c a t i o n al i n s t i t u t i o n s to i n c r e a se a n d d i v e r s i f y opportunities of higher education for senior s e c o n d a ry s c h o ol leavers i n H o n g K o n g. Efforts i n this direction resulted in t wo recent agreements. Agreement with TWGHs to Set up a Community College A m e m o r a n d um o f u n d e r s t a n d i ng w a s signed between the Un i v e r s i ty and the Tung Wa h G r o up of Hospitals ( TWGHs) on 30th A p r i l 2002 to p r o v i de for the establishment of a c ommu n i ty college that offers associate degree programmes. Under the memo r a n d um, the University, t h r o u g h the SCS, w i l l be r e s p o n s i b le f or c u r r i c u l um design, academic accreditation, a n d q u a l i t y a s s u r a n ce i n r e s p e ct o f the academic p r o g r ammes of the college, w h i le TWG Hs w i l l be responsible for constructing the campus on a suitable site and the overall operation of the community college. A planning c omm i t t ee w i t h equal representation f r om both institutions w i l l be set u p to oversee the e n t i re project. Articulation Arrangements with the University of Waikato O n 6 th Ma y, an a c a d em ic a g r e eme nt w a s signed between C U H K and the University of W a i k a t o i n N e w Z e a l a n d to p r o v i d e a p a t hway for graduates of the associate degree p r o g r a m me to e n r o l i n u n d e r g r a d u a te studies at the Un i v e r s i ty of Waikato.
