Trevor Mallard (middle), Minister of Education of New Zealand, Mr. Frank Wilson, the Consul- General, as well as senior officials from schools and tertiary institutions in New Zealand. Under the agreement, the University of Waikato recognizes credits gained in the SCS's Associate Degree Programme i n Business. Graduates who have attained a m i n i mum of a B grade average and a satisfactory level of English proficiency w i l l have the option of proceeding to unde r g r adua te courses i n management studies, electronic commerce, and liberal studies at the University of Waikato. First International Day on Campus A n International Day was held on 4th October 2002 at the Cu l t u r al Square on campus to promote cross-cultural exchange and student exchange programmes. Organized by the Office of Academic Links, the function featured performances, booths dedicated to the day's theme, and a book exhibition. Performers included a live band, the CUHK Dance Society, and European f o lk dancers, wh i le the booths p r o v i d ed services such as national costume-fitting and photo-taking. Chung Chi News New General Science Centre Opens The Tang Ng an Leng Centre for General Science Education, located on the top floor of the Elisabeth Luce Moore Library of Chung Chi College, was formally opened in September 2002. The centre owes its establishment to the generous donation of Mr. and Mrs. Chan Chi- kin, Chung Chi College a l umni 1966, and f und i ng f r om the Chung Chi College Board of Trustees. The centre is set up to promote general science education and raise student interest in science through activities such as solar and planetary observations, exhibitions of scientific models, demonstrations of experiments, seminars, workshops, and group discussions. It is we ll equipped w i t h mode rn facilities, including a seven-inch solar telescope wh i ch is the best of its type in local universities. O f f i c i a t i ng at the o p e n i ng on 30th September were Mr. Karl C. Kwok, chairman of the Ch u ng Chi Board of Trustees, Prof. Rance P.L. Lee, head of Chung Chi College, Mr. and Mrs. Chan Chi-kin, and Prof. Lai Hon-ming, chairman of the centre's management committee. Summer Trip to France T w e n t y C h u n g C h i s t u d e n ts eme r s ed themselves i n French culture for 21 days f r om 13th July 2002 by participating in the Study Trip: Exploration of French Society programme organized by Chung Chi College. During their stay in France, the students attended a French course at the Alliance Fran ç aise and paid visits to the Bordeaux Fire Station, the Logistics Platform of M é d i c i ns sans Frontiers, the Senate, the Na t i o n al Assembly, UNESCO, Croix Rouge Fran ç aise, and museums.
