The Hong Kong Economy: New Driving Forces (30th September) M r . K w o k Kwo k - c h u en Chief Economist NE Asia of Standard Chartered Bank, CUHK alumnus Mr. K w o k expressed his views on the recent economic developments in Hong Kong and how collaboration between Guangdong and Ho ng Ko ng could be stepped u p to create a n ew i n t e g r a t e d driving force for the economy. Hong Kong and mainland China have just signed the CEPA. Construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridgewill soon commence. Rules of entry to Hong Kong have also been relaxed making it easier for mainland Chinese tourists to visit the city. How will these developments affect the future of Hong Kong's economy? I Parenting in the New Century (6th October) Dr. Ch an T i n g - s am Instructor of the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research, CUHK alumnus Dr. Chan analysed the social issues facing parents today i n the light of three trends: worship of the dollar, eclipse of family life by material and other distractions, and further corruption of distorted family relationship by negative values. He also led the audience to reflect on these questions and the meaning of parental love and family life. Parents in the new century have yet to realize the value of family life and parental love. I From My Experience of Chinese Culture to the Positioning of Hong Kong Culture (7th October) D r. Chan Ma n - h u ng General manager and editor-in-chief of the Commercial Press (HK) Ltd., CUHK alumnus As a researcher of modern Chinese history, Dr. Chan has given a lot of thought to China's modernization and cultural development, his understanding of wh i ch has been deepened by personal experiences and observations. In the lecture, Dr. Chan expressed his views on Ho ng Kong's cultural repositioning. Dr. Chan has been engaged in the business of books for over 20 years, in particular books on Chinese history and culture. He has paid homage to the gems of the c o u n t r y ' s cultural and historical heritage and is steeped in the knowledge of different cultural genres.
