come from this capacity, created by Dr. Kwok's leadership, to command the loyalty of staff, clients and tenants alike and to mobilize them for worthwhile ends. His vision is to enhance the SHKP b r and further and raise levels of customer service to new heights. For Dr. Kwo k, there is no sharp division between his corporate responsibilities and his p u b l i c a n d c o m m u n i t y service. He gives new meaning to the old adage about charity beginning at home. The staff he r e c r u i t s care f o r t he c ommu n i ty and participate actively i n charity wo r k, for e x a m p l e v i a t he S H K P Vo l u n t e er Team. Ov er 700 volunteers have j o i ned this year, including his o wn children, to wo r k for the underprivileged and the handicapped. D r. K w o k is deeply c omm i t t ed to the Chinese belief that it is a responsibility to give back to the c ommu n i ty mu ch of wh at the commun i ty has given to h im. But to make a difference i n the c ommu n i t y, he t h i n ks it important to be selective and to focus on those activities he feels most passionate about. He is a member of numerous professional, public and community organizations. He is a director of The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong and a non-executive director of the Securities and Futures Commi s s i on. He is chairman of the Management Committee of the Police Children's Education Trust, as well as a member of the Hong Kong Port Development Council and the General Committee of the Ho ng Kong General Chamber of Commerce. H i s focus on edu c a t i on is manifest i n his membe r sh ip i n the President's Counc il on International Activities of Yale University and the Asia Advisory Board of Harvard Business School. He is also an adviser to government, t h r o u gh his memb e r s h ip i n the A d v i s o ry Coun c il of the One Co u n t ry Two Systems Research Institute and the Beijing Committee of The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. D r. Kwo k 's ma ny contributions to The Chinese University reflect the fact that it is an institution whose values he feels passionate about. A great a dm i r er of f o rmer counc il c ha i rman Q .W. Lee, D r. K w o k has been a council member since 1994 and vice-chairman since 1999. He is cha i rman of the Campus Planning and Building Committee, chairman of the University Tender Board, convenor of the Task Force on Sites B and F Development, director of The Chinese University of Ho ng Ko ng Founda t i on and was Treasurer of the University f r om 1997 to 1999. Since 1994 he has been a memb er of the Comm i t t ee on Donations and since 2002 a member of the Task Force on Un i v e r s i ty Governance. H is c o n t r i b u t i on to o u r 4 0 t h a n n i v e r s a ry celebrations has been a major one. He has been a member of the Organizing Committee and is c h a i r m a n of t he b a n q u e t s t e e r i ng c o mm i t t e e . We l o o k f o r w a r d t o t he culmination of this wo r k on Saturday night. Dr. K w o k has also been a munificent donor to the University supporting scholarships and a c a d em ic a c t i v i t i e s, mo s t n o t a b l y t he establishment of the C.N. Yang Archive. M r . Chairman, Dr. Raymond K w o k is a v i s i o n a ry en t r ep r eneu r, a d i s t i n g u i s h ed contributor to the Hong Kong community and to this university.
