記憶中，仍有當日蔡敎 授主持醫學院院務會議的情 景。他那種不怒而威的攝人 氣魄，是非常特別的。 在英美等地的大學，無 論 你 是 大 敎 授 或 是 初 級講 師，大家平日都以名字（ firs t n ame ) 相稱，這方面是很平 等的。回到香港，在校內首 次見到蔡敎授，我很親切自 然地叫他' Ge r a l d ' ，只見他 臉色一轉’表情怪異’像是 想訓斥我，卻又忍著，始終 沒有理睬我。 那 次 以 後 ， 我 一 直 管 他 叫 ‘Professor Choa ' 。 •你曾經行醫、執敎、從事硏究以及敎 育行政，這幾種工作之中，你最喜歡 的是哪一種？ •我最喜歡還是當醫生，那是因為可以 很快很直接地看到工作成果。試想完 成了一個很成功的手術，治好了病 人，那滿足感有多大!這是不收酬勞 我也樂意做的工作。 但事情也有另外的一面：為了不 影響病人的情緒，醫生要比病人更堅 強、更鎮定，不能流露太多個人的感 受。面對患上絕症的病人尤要如是； 這與我本身的性情不符，所以自我抑 壓也來得特別厲害。 ……是的，有時候要故作輕鬆， 若無其事，但內心卻其實很難受，只 苦於沒有宣洩的渠道。 I can stil l remembe r ho w Prof .
