Dr. Choh -Mi ng L i founded the Chinese University i n 1963 and served the University as vice-chancellor until 1978. He was the first Chinese to take u p the position i n Ho ng Kong. It was he who moved the three colleges — Chung Chi, New Asia, and Un i t ed to the current Shatin campus. It was also he w h o set d i r ec t i ons f or the Un i v e r s i t y 's de v e l opmen t, f o r mu l a t ed teaching and research policies, and put f o r wa rd the vision of ‘to combine t r ad i t i on and mode r n i t y, and to b r i ng together Ch i na a nd the West (結合傳統與現代,融會中國與西方) ’ . Under his leadership, the University evolved into a mode rn international university rooted deeply in Chinese culture.
