NEWS in B r ie f COUNCIL NEWS • The Chancellor has nominated/renominated the following people as members of the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong: — Dr. Gerald L.C. Chan, chairman, Morningside Group; Sir C.K. Chow, chief executive officer, MTR Corporation Ltd.; and Sister Margaret K.L. Wong, principal, St. Paul's Convent School (from 27th No v embe r 2004 to 26th No v embe r 2007) — M r. R icky W .K . W ong, co -founde r and chairman, City Telecom (H.K.) Ltd. (from 18th Oc tober 2004 to 17th Oc tober 2005) • The H onou rab le Cheung M an -kw ong , the Honourable Kwong Chi-kin and the Honourable James P.C. Tien were elected by the members of the Legislative Council, from among their own number, as members of the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong each for a period of three years from 29th October 2004. Wong • Prof. Wong Nai Ching Henry, professor of chemistry, has been elected as Fellow to the Third World Academy of Sciences. • Prof. Ng Kee Pui Dennis, professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been admitted as a Chartered Scientist by the Science Council, United Kingdom. • Prof. Tony Lee, professor of information engineering, Prof. Jie Huang, professor in the Department of Automation and Computer-aided Engineering, and Prof. Zhou Xunyu, professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, have been made IEEE Fellows for the class of 2005 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. • Prof. Chan Wai Kwong Victor, professor in the Department of Music, has been p resen ted the 2003 CASH M ost Performed W orks Aw a rd — Local Original Serious Work, by the Composers and Authors Society o f Hong Kong (CASH) on 25th November 2004. • Prof. Chan W ing Wah, professor of music, has been presented the 2004 CASH Golden Sail Music Award — Best Serious Composition, by CASH on 25th November 2004. • Prof. Lo Yuk Ming Dennis, professor of chemical pathology, has been promoted to Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists effective from 4th January 2005. 2 8 Chinese University Bulletin Spring • Summer 2005
