The laboratory is one of seven Croucher laboratories set up at various universities in Hong Kong, and named after Noel Croucher in recognition of the foundation's support for science in the last 25 years. Over the years, the University received generous donations of over HK$80 million from the Croucher Foundation. The laboratory was founded on the achievements of the Laboratory of Human Genomics, as a result of close collaborations among a number of researchers. Scientists working in the laboratory have recently made important discoveries on the functiona l characteristics of human genes including those important to liver cancer development and the cardiovascular systems.
