CUHK EMBA: 12 th in G loba l Rank ing and Taking th e Lead in th e Asia-Pacific T he Executive MBA Programme of the Chinese University received its highest ever ranking from Financial Times since the London-based business newspaper conducted its first EMBA ranking in 2001. Financial Times, in its latest global survey of over 80 EMBA programmes, ranked the CUHK EMBA Programme number 12 worldwide — a leap from number 20 in 2002 and 2003. The programme was also declared the top independent EMBA programme in the Asia-Pacific for two consecutive years from 2003, and the best Independent EMBA Programme in Asia for the fourth year in a row. The programme was also assessed to be the best worldwide in terms of the percentage of women students, and among the top 10 in terms of the percentage of international faculty and alumni's salaries in consulting. It also did very well in areas including salary increase, aims achieved, women faculty, percentage of women advisory board members and of international advisory board members. The programme is also one of only two in the top 12 where the medium of instruction is bilingual. MBA Programme in Finance Ranked among Most Influential in China T he MBA Programme in Finance offe red jo in tly by the Chinese University and Tsinghua University in Beijing has been ranked top 10 by the Wo r l d Business Newsw i r e in its annual ranking of 'The Most Influential Mainland China-Foreign (Including Hong Kong) Partnership MBAs'. It is the only programme involving a Hong Kong institution to make the list. The ranking is believed to be a reflection of the overall standing and commercial value of MBA programmes in the eyes of employers in China. In this ranking, a programme is assessed only if the foreign partner is listed in the rankings of US-based Business Week or those of London-based Financial Times, and the domestic partner must be an MBA institution approved by the Ministry of Education of PRC. department of economics tops RANK ING in HONG KONG T he Department of Economics has been ranked number one by the H o n g Kong Econom ic Journal M o n t h l y among all economics programmes offered by the seven universities in the territory. The department came first in all three criteria adopted by the magazine — overall research performance, proportion of teaching staff with doctoral degrees, and employers' evaluation of graduates. According to the survey published in issue 334 of the H o n g Kon g Econom i c Journal Mon t h l y , teaching staff of the department had the highest per capita publication output in international academic journals. The work ability, work attitude, and language ability of its graduates were also highly rated by their employers. Prof. Sung Yun-wing, chairman of the department, said the department puts great emphasis on research and has the w idest course selection among the local universities.
