Su nHung Kai Proper t ies Nobel Laureate s Distinguishe d Lectures J o i n t l y o r g a n i z e d by The Chines e University and Sun H u n g Kai Properties (SHKP), the Sun H u n g K a i P r o p e r t i e s No b e l Laureates Distinguished L e c t u r e s we re h e ld in June and D e c e m b e r 2005. On 3rd June, s i x d i s t i n g u i s h e d economists, including three Nobe l laureates, shared their i n s i g ht w i t h an audience o f over a t h o u s a nd i n Hong Kong on the topic of 'Emergence of Ch i n a i n the Wo r l d E c o n omy' a t the Kow l o on Shangri-la. The speakers were No b el laureates i n economic sciences Prof. E d w a rd C. Prescott (2004), Prof. Robert A . Mu n d e ll (1999), and Prof. Sir James A . M i r r l e e s (1996), as w e l l as world-class economists Prof. F. Alesina and Prof. Robert J. Barro f r om Ha r v a r d University, and Prof. E dmu n d S. Phelps f r om Columbia University. Government economist M r. Kw o k Kw ok Chuen, an d Dr. Victor Fung, chairman of the L i Fung Group, wer e the other panelists. The Hon . Hen ry Tang, Ac t i n g Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Dr. Ra ymond K w o k , v i c e - c h a i r man an d ma n a g i n g director of SHKP, and Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, vice-chancellor of the Un i v e r s i t y , presided at the opening ceremony. The lectures were coordinated by the new l y established Institute o f Economics of The Chinese University. Roberts, 1993 Nobel Laureate in physiology or medicine 1993, hosted the lecture on ‘Friends and Foes — the Unseen Bugs Wh o Share Our Planet' on 9th December at the lecture theatre of Shaw College. D r . R i c h a rd J. Roberts is an eminent molecular biologist who is currently research d i r e c t or a t the N e w En g l a n d B i o l a bs i n Massachusetts, USA.
