N e w Cent res of Re l i g i ous Stud i es Centre for Catholic Studies The Chinese University ha s received a generous dona t i o n f r om the Catholic Diocese of H o n g K o ng to set u p the Ce n t r e f o r C a t h o l i c S t u d i e s at its Department o f Cultural and Religious Studies. The Mo s t Reverend Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, Bishop of Hong Kong and Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, vice-chancellor of C U H K , o f f i c i a t e d at the centre's i n a u g u r a t i o n c e r e m o n y o n 3 r d November 2005. The centre w i l l invite prestigious s c h o l a rs to l e c t u r e a n d c o n d u c t research on Catholic studies at C U H K and s u p p o rt research postgraduat e students to f u r t h e r t h e i r s t u d i es a n d r e s ea r c h . Th e Department o f Cultural and Religious Studies w i l l offer a stream i n Catholic studies w i t h i n the Master of Arts Programme in Religious Studies as w e l l as o t her u n d e r g r a d u a t e a nd g e n e r al education courses i n the field. The centre w i l l also organize academic conferences, lectures for the public, and produce academic publications. Centre for Studies of Daoist Culture The Chinese University of H o n g K o n g has received the generous s u p p o r t of the Daoist Fung Yin g Seen Ko on to set u p the Centre for the Studies of Daoist Culture at its Department of Cu l t u r al and Religious Studies. T h e c e n t r e 's inauguration c e r emo n y was held o n 4th January 2006. O f f i c i a t i n g g u e s t s i n c l u d ed M r . Q i Xiaofei, vice-director of the State A dm i n i s t r a t i on fo r Religious A f f a i rs of the People's Republi c of China, Dr. Patrick C.P. H o , S e c r e t a r y f o r H o m e A f f a i r s o f t h e G o v e r n m e nt o f the H K S A R , Ma s t er Ren F a r o n g , p r e s i d e n t o f C h i n e s e D a o i s t Association, Master Lai H i n Wa, permanen t chairman of Daoist Fung Ying Seen Koon, and Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, vice-chancellor of the University. The centre w i l l produce publications on the research o f Daoist culture and studies, produce t e a c h i ng ma t e r i a ls f or the use of s e c o n d a r y schools, and p u b l i s h newsletters and academic j o u r n a l s.
