39 News in Brief H onours and R ecognition Prof. Yeung Wai-ho Raymond, professor of information engineering, was awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award to visit Munich University of Technology from January to April 2007. Pro f . W.H. L i ao o f t he Depa r tmen t o f Mechanical and Automation Engineering has been awarded the T.A. Stewart-Dyer/F.H. Trevithick Prize 2005 for the paper entitled ‘Design and Analysis of Magnetorheological Dampers for Train Suspension’. The prize was awarded by the Railway Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for the most meritorious paper on the subject of railway engineering, chosen from the IMechE Journal papers published in 2005. Prof. Liao’s other journal paper, ‘Vibration Control of a Suspension System via a Magnetorheological Fluid Damper’, has been ranked No. 1 among the 50 Most-Frequently Cited Articles in the Journal of Vibration and Control as of 1 February 2007. Three academics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong were awarded Senior Research Fellowships by The Croucher Foundation. They were Prof. Chan Hsiao Chang, professor of physiology, Prof. Ching Shuk-chi Emily, professor in the Department of Physics, and Prof. Chan Ka-leung Francis, professor of medicine and therapeutics, who was awarded a Medical Research Fellowship. Prof. Dennis Lo, Dr. Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine and professor of chemical pathology, has been conferred the 2007 The Sigi Ziering Award for Outstanding Contribution for a Publication in the journal Clinical Chemistry of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC).
