44 Chinese University Bulletin Spring · Summer 2007 Lecture by Wei Lun Visiting Professor P rof. Alfred W.K. Yung, professor and chairman, Department of Neuro-Oncology, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, delivered a lecture entitled ‘Personalized Cancer Therapy: Coming Soon’ in his capacity as Wei Lun Visiting Professor to the University, on 4 January at Shaw Auditorium, School of Public Health Building, Prince of Wales Hospital. The Future of Banking in China M r. Zhang Jianguo, president of China Construction Bank (CCB), delivered a talk on 11 January at the University. Entitled ‘Future of Banking Industry in China – Challenges and Opportunities’, the event was attended by over 150 students, professors and alumni of the University. Mr. Zhang said industry players in China’s banking industry must seize opportunities under the new market environment. ‘First of all, we have to work out how to meet customers’ needs in the context of the local market situation. Equally important is to learn from foreign banks on advanced management philosophy and corporate governance mechanism. In addition, we should strengthen and push forward the reform of internal operations and management structure. We also have to strengthen our collaboration with foreign banks and maintain fair competition. China’s banking industry is gradually going into the world market. Ahealthy competitive environment built on cooperation in the international arena will help boost the development of China’s banking industry while benefitting the global financial market as a whole.’
