Obituaries The University records with deep sadness the passing of Prof. Wong Sai-peng of the Department of Electronic Engineering on 15 January 2007. Prof. Wong joined the University as a lecturer in 1985 and became a professor in 1999. He was chairman of the department from 2003. The University mourns the passing of Dr. J.S. Lee, long-time friend and benefactor of the University, on 24 February 2007. Dr. J.S. Lee became a member of the Provisional Council in 1963, and later, a member of the University Council. Dr. Lee was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 1974 and made a Life Member of the Council in 1992 in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the University. He had also served as chairman and member of numerous committees of CUHK. Dr. Lee was a major benefactor of the University. The University is deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Sidney Gordon, former University Council member, on 11 April 2007, in Hong Kong. Sir Sidney was a member of the University Provisional Council in 1963 and a member of the University Council from 1963 to 1972. He was profoundly committed to the University and served as chairman and member of various University committees. O ther N ews
