Laurels The University has won recognition for its sustained contributions to the environment and health. • Reg i ona l Awa rd f o r S t reng t hen i ng E I A (Environmental Impact Assessment) Practice in Asia for 2000, by the International Association of Impact Assessment (IAIA). IAIA is one of the largest environmental audit organizations in the world with members drawn from 107 countries. • Gold in the Schools (Tertiary) Category of the First Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Awards organized by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of the HKSAR Government in 2006. • Merit prize (schools category) in the Power Smart Energy Conservation Contest organized by Friends of the Earth. Participants had to reduce electricity consumption by at least 2% in two consecutive months between June and August. • Health Ambassador Wong Pik-fung (Year 4, medicine, Chung Chi) was selected one of 20 outstanding youth volunteers by the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteer Scheme 2007–08 of the Social Welfare Department of the HKSAR. Both environmental conservation and health promotion are about connection, restoration and respect for self and nature. Contact with nature lets us see beyond ourselves and connect with a greater system, restoring our inner balance and balance in the way we see the world. The University will continue its efforts at maintaining its campus as a bastion of health and a haven where one finds 'tongues in trees, books in the running brooks…and good in everything'. 21 Local Actions Global Tasks
