Dr. the Honourable Tung Chee-hwa, GBM Dr. the Honourable Tung Chee-hwa, GBM, the Vice-Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the People's Republic of China, was the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and former Chancellor of the Chinese University. The University conferred upon Dr. Tung the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa , in recognition of his remarkable contributions to Hong Kong's smooth transition after China's resumption of sovereignty over Hong Kong, his dedicated service and able leadership as the first Chief Executive, as well as his generous support for the development of the University through his wise counsel and encouragement. 28 Chinese University Bulletin
