56   Chinese University Bulletin Spring • Summer 2008 In Support of the Olympics Spirit C UHK held various activities along the theme of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and these attracted over 12,000 participants. There were the 'Fun Horse- riding' activity in March and the CUHK Sports Carnival in April. The largest event was the CUHK Carnival—In Support of the Olympic Spirit held in August, which featured different kinds of performances, exhibitions, talks and competitions on campus. CUHK members were also involved in the games. Students Yu Chui-yee, Yiu Chun-kan ( top right ) and Mak So-ning Tania and Prof. Lam Shun- chiu, chairman of the Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, were chosen as the torchbearers and took part in the torch relay on 2 May. Twelve CUHK elite student athletes ( top left ) joined the visiting tour organized by the Physical Education Unit in August to cheer for China at the Olympics. The delegation watched the games and visited some of the sports facilities. Tania ( middle right ) and Chui-yee ( bottom left ) took part in the triathlon and wheelchair fencing respectively and the latter won one gold and one silver medal in the Paralympics. Mr. Tam Sau-sum ( middle left , right), Assistant Director of Personnel, served the games as a volunteer in Beijing. Activities and Events
