8 S IAIT has seven research centres and six research laboratories, almost all headed by CUHK professors. It employs about 250 people, half staff and half students (postgraduate). Its research involves integrating computer, communication, electronic and mechanical technologies to create new products and technologies that will benefit the human race. ‘Twenty years ago, the computing and communication fields were developing their technologies. Now t ha t we ha v e a l l t he s e advanced technologies, what are we going to do in the next 20 years? We need to integrate them into systems people can use. For instance, can we make wearable c ompu t e r s , l i ke t h e i - P hon e? How can we reduce our cars’ fuel consumption?
