News in Brief   55  Prof. Lee Shiu-hung Awarded for Healthcare Leadership Prof. Lee Shiu-hung, Emeritus Professor of Community Medicine, CUHK, was bestowed the first Healthcare Leadership Award by the Institute for Health Policy and Systems Research in recognition of his outstanding contributions to advancing Hong Kong’s health services delivery and development. The award presentation ceremony was held on 22 November 2012 and officiated by Dr. Ko Wing-man (right), Secretary for Food and Health, HKSAR. Prof. Chan Kai-ming Awarded for Humanitarian Endeavours P r o f . Ch a n K a i - m i n g , Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, and founder of the Stand TALL project, was awarded the Chinese Or thopaedic Association (COA) 2012 Humanitarian Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the provision of medical care and assistance to the victims of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. The award presentation ceremony took place in Beijing in November 2012. Prof. Malcolm Underwood Receives Distinguished Surgeon Award Prof. Malcolm J. Underwood (left), head, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the Department of Surgery, was conferred the first Distinguished Surgeon Award of the College of Surgeons, Singapore, in November 2012 in recognition of his contributions to the development of surgery in Singapore by running training courses for trainees and examiners, as well as helping to establish an externally validated examination. Prof. Eddie Tay Wins Singapore Literature Prize P r o f. Ed d i e Ta y, assistant professor i n t h e E n g l i s h D e p a r t m e n t , won the biennial 2012 S i n g a p o r e L i t e r a t u r e P r i z e (English Category). w i t h h i s p o e t r y collection The Mental Life of Cities . The awards ceremony was held in November 2012. With most of the poems written in free verse, this bilingual poetry collection is a meditation on how one may lead an authentic and meaningful life in the hyper-capitalist cities of Hong Kong and Singapore that privilege economic and material success.
