Also available is postgraduate training geared towards higher professional degrees and professional training in medical specialities: cardiology, clinical pharmacology, dermatology, endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology and hepatology, geriatrics, haematology, nephrology, neurology, rheumatology, and respiratory medicine. Members of the department are actively involved in academic activities at the international level, by serving on the editorial boards of international journals, or as chairpersons and members of professional organizations. It also conducts research and provides clinical services at the Prince of Wales Hospital. With a research focus on molecular biology and infection control, the department aims at expanding and improving laboratory services related to those areas. Its other operating principles are providing education of a high standard as well as optimal patient care by continuously upgrading its clinical, laboratory, consultation, and infection control services. Students gain experience in a range of clinical settings in hospital and community under the supervision of teachers from the department. A full range of postgraduate programmes at master and PhD levels for further career progression in nursing are available. Postgraduate students benefit from staff research expertise in current projects such as stroke rehabilitation, psycho-social interventions, oncology, mental health, elderly care, midwifery practice, and women’s health.
