converted points are converted points multiplied by the number of units of the course concerned. 13.3 A student who has gained a grade of ‘D’ or above in a course shall earn the unit/s of that course. However, the unit/s of a course which a student has passed but is required to repeat shall count only once towards the fulfilment of course units for graduation. !" 14.1 A student shall take course examinations, if prescribed by the teacher/s concerned, in the form of written, practical or oral assessment, or any combination thereof. 14.2 If a comprehensive examination is prescribed by his major programme, a student shall sit for the examination if he is certified by his major department as having met the entry requirements, if any. Instead of a comprehensive examination, a graduation thesis or graduation project may be prescribed by his major programme, to which regulations governing comprehensive examination shall also apply, where applicable. The grades, standards and converted points used in reporting results of comprehensive examination or graduation thesis/project shall be the same as those prescribed in Regulation 13.2. 14.3 Absence from examinations (a) A student who for medical or other compelling reasons is unable to sit for any course examination or the comprehensive examination, shall apply in writing with documentary evidence at the earliest possible moment but not later than 10 days after the examination concerned to the Registrar for permission for absence. In the case of illness/injury, the application shall be accompanied by a certificate signed or countersigned by the Director of the University Health Service. (b) If his application for absence is successful, a student: (i) in the case of absence from an examination of any course, may be otherwise assessed at the discretion of the department concerned; and (ii) in the case of absence from a comprehensive examination: (1) shall be permitted to sit for the next examination without taking any course in the following term or year provided that he can meet the entry requirements, if any, and in such case he shall be considered for a degree with classification; or (2) may request consideration for the award of an aegrotat degree under Regulation 16.3. If it is decided not to award him an aegrotat degree, he will retain the right to sit for the comprehensive examination as provided for in Regulation 14. 3(b)(ii)(1). (c) A student who is absent from any examination without permission shall be given a grade of ‘F’ in that examination. 14.4 A student who fails in the comprehensive examination shall register for courses, if any, as directed by the department concerned in the following term or year, which may require him to retake some courses he has already
