School. 11.3 Notwithstanding 11.1 and 11.2 above, full-time research postgraduate students who hold postgraduate studentships should apply to the department chairman concerned and dean of Graduate School for any period of leave. 11.4 Leave of absence is limited to a maximum of one year in the first instance, and any extension is limited to a maximum of one more year, beyond which no further extension will be granted. 11.5 A student who has been absent without leave or who is in breach of the residence requirements for a continuous period exceeding one month shall be considered as having withdrawn from studies at the University. 11.6 A student whose health is considered by the Director of the University Health Service as constituting a hazard to the University community shall be required to take leave of absence. At the end of the prescribed period of absence, the student shall obtain a certificate of good health signed or countersigned by the Director of the University Health Service in the case of a full-time student, or signed by a registered medical practitioner and countersigned by the Director of the University Health Service in the case of a part-time student, before applying to resume studies. 11.7 A student who has been absent for any period shall be responsible for applying to the teacher/s concerned for permission to make up for any required work missed. 11.8 Unless otherwise stipulated by the Rules for Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programmes, the above regulations shall normally apply. %& 12.1 Examinations in the form of written, practical or oral tests, or continuous assessment, or any combination thereof, shall be held at times to be determined by the graduate division/board concerned. 12.2 A student who for medical or other compelling reasons is unable to sit for any examination or any part thereof shall apply in writing to the Registry for withdrawal from the examination or any part thereof. The Registry will determine in consultation with the graduate division/board concerned what follow-up action is required. Application for such withdrawal for medical reasons shall be accompanied by a medical certificate signed or countersigned by the Director of the University Health Service. A student who is absent from an examination for non-medical reasons without prior application for withdrawal shall be considered as failing in that examination. . 13.1 A student’s performance shall be assessed on the basis of any or all of the following: class work, written work, laboratory performance, field work, research papers, assignments, tests and examinations and any other method of academic assessment.
