Its objectives are to promote and conduct research in sports medicine and sports science, to promote and conduct related educational programmes, to provide professional expertise and advisory support to the sporting community, and to facilitate liaison and interaction with sports medicine and sport science institutions in other parts of the world. The centre was designated as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Sports Medicine and Health Promotion in 1996. Its activities involve the participation of the Department of Community and Family Medicine and the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics. The laboratory is also a base for local and international education and training programmes in geoinformation science and technology, and their applications. It is staffed by scholars from the Institute of Remote Sensing Application and the Institute of Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and academics from the University’s various faculties.
