Apart from engaging in research, the programme devotes its energies to four other general areas: publications, conferences, building a materials resource centre, and conducting ongoing projects related to casebooks on comparative literature studies. A journal under the title Chinese-International Comparative Literature Bulletin was introduced in 1990. Directories of scholars throughout the world interested in promoting Chinese-Western comparative literature studies and their activities have been compiled, thus keeping comparatists updated on what is going on in the field. With the latter renamed the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 1995–96, the unit too was renamed Computer Science and Engineering Consultancy Unit. Its main function is to provide the industrial sector and the academic community with consulting services such as expert advice, system analysis, feasibility studies, simulation, and customized training programmes. The unit is fully supported by the staff of the department whose areas of specialization and industrial experience cover the main branches of computer science and engineering, including computer architecture, artificial intelligence, image and speech processing, numerical analysis, real-world software applications, Chinese processing, computer education, system software, VR and animation, Internet and WWW applications, and protection against computer viruses. Dementia Research Unit Tel.: 2632 3637 Fax.: 2646 2284 E-mail: psychiatry@cuhk.edu.hk With the increasing size of the ageing population, dementia care has become a pressing issue for many countries. The Dementia Research Unit of the Department of Psychiatry was set up in 1998 to organize and promote research in this area. The unit invites local and international collaborations. Its research focus is the genetic, epidemiological and clinical aspects of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.
