Variousforms of psychologicalservices for both adultsand children are available to the public as well as University staff referred by the University Health Serv ice. Such ser vices include assessment of intelligence, ap titu de, personality,and vocational interests; specialized neuropsychological and forensic evalu ations; an d individ ual, grou p, marital, and family therapies. Treatment pro grammes can be designed for child development pr oblems, improv ing paren tin g skills, marital adjustmen t, depression, stress management, and improving social skills and assertiveness. Fees are charged according to the type of serviceprovided. The Clinical Psychology Centre is located on the third floor of Wong Foo Yuan Building on Chung Chi campus. Cochlear Implant and Auditory Brainstem Implant Centre Communicative Disorders and Paediatric Speech Perception Centre Cooperative Centre for Communicative Research Tel.:2632 3288 Fax.:2648 7908 E-mail :surgery@cuhk.edu.hk These three centreswere established under the Faculty ofMedicine in December 2001.Over the pastfive years, the teamof otorhinolaryngolists, audiologists,speech therapists, psychiatrists and other medical experts at the University and the Prince of WalesHospital have made significant achievements in helping profoundly deaf individuals to leave their ‘silentworld’. The University’s Department of Surgery has enjoyed an international reputation in both cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation, as well as pio neering research in communicative disorders and paediatric speech perception. There has been active collaboration with institutes in mainland China and other countries. It has been privileged to provide training to health professionals and educators outside Hong Kong, and to establish a network with world-renowned experts in the field of communicative sciences. The three centres will share the same missions that have been planned for the prospective Institute of Human Communicative Research. Their aims are to pr omote and cond uct clinical and b asic scien tif ic r esearch in the field of commu nicative sciences and related clinical sp ecialities, and to org anize educational activities for practising clinicians and the public in the treatment and rehabilitation of communicativedisorders, hearing, speech and languagedisorders.
