The Automation and Computer-aided Engineering Programme is designed to prepare graduates who are particularly well trained in the use o f computer technology and engineering principles for the design, analysis, planning, control, and man agement of engineerin g pr ojects. It p rovides basic knowledge in electron ics, mechanics, computing , an d the know-h ow to integrate these technologies for solving engineering problems. Its corecourses and training come in two streams, n amely the Au tomation Str eam an d the Computer- aid ed Engineering Stream. Both have state-of-the-art technologies in automation and up-to-date computer-aided technologies as the core elements. Thegraduates will be able to take up jobs as systems, automation, software, and design engineers, as well as interface designers in industry, government, hospitals, and research institutes. They can also continue their studies in the dep artment for MPhil or PhD degrees specializing in one of the areas. TheInnovation andDesign Engineering Programme aims at training students in tran slating the n eeds of society into produ cts using creative and analytical design methods. Graduates are expected to beable to design not only the exterior of a product, but also its functional components. The programme covers three major areas: fundamental knowledge in engineering, innovation and creative design techniques, fundamentals of computing techniques and applications in productdesign. The graduateswillbe able to assume the roles of product designers, or systems designers. Department of Computer Science and Engineering Tel.:2609 8440 Fax.:2603 5302 E-mail: dept@cse.cuhk.edu.hk Website :http://www.cse.cuhk.edu.hk TheDepartment of Computer Scienceand Engineering, the first such department in lo cal ter tiary institutions, of fer s b oth und erg rad uate and postgraduate programmes. Its computer science programme leads to the BSc degreewhile its computer engineering programme leads to the BEng degree. The department has joined hands with the Department of Information Engineering in offering a new undergraduate Internet Engineering Programme which focuses on state-of-the- art technologies and applications on the Internet. The department possesses the most up-to-date equipment for teaching and research. Many of its graduates are leaders in industry and commerce both inHong Kong and overseas.
