DepartmentProfiles •Medicine 161 Faculty of Medicine Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Tel.:2632 2735 Fax.:2637 2422 E-mail: ansoffice@cuhk.edu.hk Website :http://www.aic.cuhk.edu.hk The department provides anaesthesia, intensive care, and pain medicine services at the Faculty’s teaching hospital, the Prince of Wales Hospital. Undergraduate teaching emphasizes clinical skills, resuscitation and periop erative med icine. Clinical exposure is obtained in the operating theatres, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), pain rounds and clinics, and the labour ward. The department undertakes a diverse range of research including clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, cardiovascular and respiratory physiology, regional, neurosurgical, cardiothoracic, paediatric and obstetric anaestheisa, pain, and ICUmanagement and outcome. It haswon many international awards for itsresearch presentations and publications. The department also has a laboratory specializing in drug assays. It also supervises MPhil and PhD students, organizes specialist training for the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and runs a training programme for pathologists from the mainland. Diagnostic services off ered includ e surg ical pathology, autopsy, cytology, haematolo gy, blood transfusion, and molecular pathology. Research is focused on nasopharyngeal carcinoma, immun ohistochemistry, neu ropath ology, renal pathology, liver cancers, and gastrointestinal lymphomas. Members of the department also serve prof essional and co ntinuin g medical educational bodies in patho logy at the international level.
