The undergraduate pr ogramme has fiv e su bfields: bro adcastin g, adv ertisin g an d p u blic r elatio ns, p rin t jou r nalism , multi-med ia an d telecommunications, and communication studies. The postgraduate programmes lead to th e degr ees of MPhil, MSSc, MA, MSc, and PhD. The sch ool is the pioneer of communication education and research in Hong Kong, and itsteaching staff are active in r esear ch, especially in inter natio nal commu nication and communication patterns in cultural China. Itslong-termstrategy is to cultivate a distinctiveChinese voice in the discipline. Thr ough the pr omotion of indigenou s app roach es, collabo ratio n with ov erseas sch olar s in research, and hosting intern atio nal conferences, it has gained an international reputation for innovative scholarship and proactive leadership. It plans to use its resources and expertise in helping to develop the discipline of psychology in China. Students are encouraged to develop independent and critical thinking, identify with the humanistic values and ethics of the social work profession, and maintain a special concern for the vulnerable groups in society. Exchanges between students and teachers through small-group and individual contacts, and integration of theory and practice through field practica in local and overseas settings are emphasized in the curriculum. The department is the pioneer of social work education and research in Hon g Kon g. Besides the u ndergr aduate pro gramme, it offer s postgradu ate programmesleading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work, and the degrees
