The objective is to cultivate sociolog ical p erspectives for analysing social issues critically and intelligently,and to provide a balanced education for further studiesin thesubject. The department offers over 50 courses including foundation courses in Chinese society and sociological theory, and courses on communication and information technology skills as they apply to sociological studies. I n 2002–3, th e major programme has introduced a new areaof specialization in ‘socialresearch’, and in addition to the existing minor programme in sociology, the department has also introduced a minor programme in social research.
