Part-timeUndergraduateStudies 261 General Information The Univ ersity offers two part-time degree programmes: Music and Primary Education. Regulations governin g these prog rammes as well as admission to part-time undergraduate studies aregiven in Part 7 of this Calendar . Degrees are awarded on the same basis as the full-time programmes described on p.177. Curriculum Structure The normal length of study for a part-time programme is five to six years, with three terms in each year. Apart from completing requirements of the major subject, studentsare also required to take general education courses and/or elective courses in other disciplines. The University adopted with effect from 1991–92 a full-fledged credit unit system in the undergraduate curriculum. Secondary 6 and Secondary 7 students are required to complete before graduation at least 123 and 99 units of courses respectively. Students who satisfy special entrance requirements of a specific programme and are granted unit exemption at thetimeof admission shallcomplete at least 80 or 60 units of courses before graduation, depending on the specific category under which they are admitted. Exemption from major requirements in specific programmes shall also be given to students as prescribed in the study scheme concerned. (Please see also Curriculum Structure of thefull-time programmeson pp.177–178.) Starting from 1999–2000, all newly-admitted students are required to achieve a certain level of competence in IT. They areexpected to pass the IT Proficiency Test within their first year of attendance. If they pass, ‘IT Proficiency Pass’ will be recorded on the transcripts.
